BEHIND THE BIZ

Trusting in your vision can be extremely challenging, especially when increased pressures arrive.

BUT, pressure is in fact what creates diamonds.

Iā€™m in the middle of what youā€™d call a pressure cooker moment. Can you relate?

Iā€™m launching my first course, firing up my business engine again with my fractional CMO/COO roles (more on this in a later newsletter), but more importantly, Iā€™m about to be a dadā€¦

TO. IDENTICAL. TWINS.

As I prepare for the physical birth of my babies (my wife, Andie, is healthy šŸ’š) and now the birth of what feels like a new business, I canā€™t help but reflect on my origin story AND my journey as a whole.

Iā€™ve lost a lot and gained a lot.

Iā€™ve both celebrated and cried.

And Iā€™ve had phases of clear-as-day clarity on my vision and also been so unbelievably lost and confused.

As I navigate all this and reflect on my past to find solace (in knowing clarity will come once again),Ā hereā€™s a journal entry that was inspired by all the feelings and energy of not only creating a course but also preparing to be a dad:

Things are just coming to me so clearly (finally).

The people, the opportunities, the money (even though it hurts right now), but it also feels like a house of cards.

It feels fragile.

The key is how we react to the stack of cards falling.

Do you panic?

Do you doubt yourself?

Do you trust your vision?

Need you react?

For me, my origin story centers around my ability to be a great connector of people and making complex topics and ideas easier to understand.

This stemmed from having to overcome my neuro-spicy brain when I was a kid.

I remember the frustration that came when my teachers and parents didnā€™t fully understand how my mind worked, or my intentions as well as I did.

I committed from an early age to be an active listener who leads with empathy, something I felt the big grown-ups around me WERENā€™T DOING for ME.

I didnā€™t want to be someone who listens with the intent to only respond but rather someone who listens to be curious and truly understand another perspective.

I know the feeling of being alone and, after years of hardship, finally finding a community that finally makes you feel seen has made all the difference.

And thatā€™s a huge part of the reason I created Unstuckkd in the first place.

So YOU donā€™t feel like you have to navigate uncertainty (and yes, your neuro-spicy brain) alone.

SUCCESS SHORTCUTS

Have you ever heard of the hero's journey?

It's the mythical structure behind every great story like Harry Potter, Star Wars, and The Lion King.

Itā€™s also the ā€˜structureā€™ behind every great business: Nike, Amazon, and Red Bull.

And guess what?

You're a hero too (I know itā€™s cliche, but just bear with me)

Your origin story is like the beginning of your hero's journey as an entrepreneur or side hustler.

It could start with a:

  • Job loss

  • Breakup

  • Frustration with corporate

  • Aha! moment

And it can end with:

  • Starting your first business

  • Finding your calling

  • Creating a new life

But here's the thing: your story needs to connect with your audience on a deeply personal level.

To do that, you need to find the universal themes in your story.

Themes like:

  • Resilience

  • Grit

  • Overcoming the odds

  • Belief in yourself

Everyone loves a good origin story, so don't be afraid to share yours.

It could be the one thing that inspires someone to start their own journey and change their life forever.

CRAFTING YOUR ORIGIN STORY:

The first part of my new course is about understanding your origin story (have you signed up for the waitlist?!).

Mini Exercise:

1ļøāƒ£ Write down what makes you unique. As a bonus, you can outline your journey up to this point. It can be as sparse or detailed as youā€™d like.

2ļøāƒ£ Identify someone you trust to explain your origin story too.

3ļøāƒ£ Entrepreneur bonus: Identify a part that you can use to solve a pain point for a business or individual.

Here's a secret, you can craft your origin story no matter where you're at in your entrepreneurial journey:

Tell us about your:

šŸ’„ Struggles

šŸ’„ Hardships

šŸ’„ Triumphs

Talk about how you got here, and what keeps you going.

Be raw, vulnerable, and powerful.

The best part about entrepreneurship is that we ALL start with nothing.

SOCIAL SCOOP

In an interview, Jeff Bezos said ā€œThe biggest oak starts from an acorn, and if you want to do anything new, youā€™ve got to be willing to let that acorn grow into a little sapling and then finally into a small tree, and maybe one day it will be a big business on its own. We know that big things start small.ā€

Amazon started small - they were a retailer selling books.

Now theyā€™re a multi-trillion business thatā€™s launching rockets.

But this happened over 30 years, not overnight.

Thereā€™s no need to feel overwhelmed by your urge to do something great in a single day.

But if you can persuade yourself to take small steps in the right direction, it would allow you the flexibility of changing your strategy at the moment when you are not getting the required resultsā€¦

And it naturally becomes fodder for your origin story (and future underdog story if any of you have the dream to be an author).

Serena Kerrigan said it best: ā€œDo it for the plotā€

Translation: see yourself as the main character of the story which is your life.

You maintain the outlook that every moment - good or bad - is merely a plot point for your larger narrative.

You are the writer, producer, director, and the star.

Start living unapologetically, and give them (the naysayers and those who create closed doors) a plot twist that no one saw coming.

What origin or underdog story do you want to tell the world?

Thanks for reading!
